Carp fishing? Really? YES! Carp fishing is alive and well in Western Colorado. If you've never had a carp, aka rubber lip, on your fly line.... do it once and you'll be "hooked". Western Anglers carries the flies that work for carp, so come in and stock up. Then come back because we want to hear the story of you catching your first (or fifteenth) rubber lip!
Western Anglers Fly Shop has hosted a carp fly fishing tournament, Carpocalypse, for many years with 2023 being the 11th annual Carpocalypse Fishing Tournament. While we have taken a hiatus from hosting the tournament, it is still one of the most loved events, bringing fly fishers from near and far.
Carpocolypse is Western Anglers annual warm-weather showdown where anglers from across the Grand Valley and beyond gather to chase the biggest, baddest carp in our local waters. This laid-back, high-energy tournament celebrates the challenge and chaos of carp on the fly — a true test of finesse, patience, and a little bit of luck. We kick off the event with good vibes, local camaraderie, and plenty of laughs as anglers hunt for their shot at the leaderboard. Whether you’re a seasoned carp whisperer or trying it for the first time, Carpocolypse is all about fun, community, and celebrating a fish that fights way harder than it gets credit for.
